Learn Animation Through the Characters You Love
Live in person in Kansas City and limited online seats available! This summer, students don’t just draw cartoons. They learn how animation actually works, from real Hollywood animators.
At Hollywood Animation Academy in Kansas City, students train using the kinds of popular, modern animated characters they already love and connect with. Familiar, stylized character designs make the learning process engaging and achievable from the start, allowing students to focus on what truly brings animation to life:

We combine Midwest integrity, accountability, and care with decades of professional animation experience in major film and television productions. We teach the fundamentals correctly, from day one.
Students receive direct instruction from experienced animators who have worked on many of the shows they grew up with, honest, supportive critique, structured creative discipline, and learn Hollywood studio production-style thinking.

2026 ClasseS
HAA encourages local students to come for the in person studio experience that defines our groundbreaking animation school. We also welcome students from other locations or with special circumstances to attend online. In person seats take priority. Remote students will be provided software licenses but will require an approved home computer set up.
Class size is limited to provide personalized feedback and more instructor interaction.
Foundations in Character Animation and Design (Ages 10–14)
Mondays + Wednesdays 9:30 - 11:30 am | 4 weeks | June 1 - June 24

Designed to spark confidence and creative excitement in younger artists. Students experience structured training in a supportive environment and learn what it feels like to complete real animation work.
Learn and strengthen drawing and posing
Fun foundational animation with characters they’ll know from favorite shows
Ladder-path scholarship credit toward the Creative Edge program or One Year Certificate program
Rising Artists (Ages 15 and up)
Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30 am to 12 pm | 4 weeks | June 2 - June 25

For students who want to push beyond their current level of animation ability to get a sense of what professional animation training and an animation career might be like. This track introduces deeper critique and performance study, and early professional expectations appropriate for older teens. Students will end the course with some finished work that will help create or build their animation portfolio.
